Upside Down Text Generator

The upside-down alphabet was not invented for pranks — linguists got there first. When the International Phonetic Alphabet needed new symbols in the late 1800s, its designers simply rotated existing letters: ɐ is a turned a, ǝ a turned e, ʍ a turned w. Once those characters landed in Unicode, the internet noticed you could spell whole sentences with them, and flip generators became a fixture of early forums.

Where each flipped character actually comes from

Lowercase leans on the IPA blocks. Capitals are scavenged from further afield: ꓭ, ꓷ, and ꓘ belong to the Lisu script of southwest China, whose alphabet happens to contain rotated Latin shapes. Digits improvise hardest of all — 2 borrows the Korean jamo ᄅ, 4 the Bopomofo stroke ㄣ, 5 the archaic Greek ϛ, while 6 and 9 simply trade places. Feed in "welcome" and out comes ʍǝlɔoɯǝ.

One detail worth knowing: each letter rotates in place. The generator keeps your left-to-right order, so ɥǝllo still scans at a glance while looking like it slid off a shelf. Nobody has to turn their phone around to read your bio.

The mirror alphabet

This page also produces a horizontal mirror set built from Cyrillic and Roman inscription letters — Я for R, И for N, Ꙅ for S, and ꟻ, a reversed F that genuinely appears in ancient Roman stonework. How it behaves on real platforms

Flipped text is strongest in small doses: a Discord nickname, a deadpan one-word reply, a single inverted phrase inside an otherwise normal caption — it suits the whole crazy name aesthetic. The honest catch is that these glyphs are pulled from several writing systems, so they do not always match in weight — a Lisu capital can render a touch heavier than the IPA lowercase beside it — and the occasional Latin-only username filter will reject characters like ᄅ. Bios and chat messages almost never filter; game name fields sometimes do, so check the saved result there first.
