Bubble text is really five separate Unicode inventions wearing the same nickname, and they behave differently enough that picking the right one matters. Here is the honest comparison.

The five styles, side by side

• Classic circled — Ⓢⓣⓐⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ. The only style with true lowercase plus circled digits ①–⑨. Encoded back in the early nineties (the circled numbers trace to Japanese character standards), so support is close to universal.
• Filled circles — 🅢🅗🅐🅓🅞🅦. White letters knocked out of dark discs. Caps only, with strong contrast on light backgrounds.
• Squared — 🄼🄾🄾🄽. Open boxes with a stencil feel that suits retro and arcade aesthetics.
• Solid squares — 🆂🅷🅰🅳🅾🆆. The boldest of the set, with one big catch covered below.
• Parenthesized — ⒮⒰⒩⒩⒴. The quiet one: each letter in soft brackets, more typographic in-joke than shout. Lowercase only.

The A-B-O-P problem

In the solid-square style, four letters double as emoji: 🅰, 🅱, and 🅾 are the blood-type buttons and 🅿 is the parking sign. Phones therefore paint them as solid red or blue emoji squares while the rest of the word stays monochrome. "SHADOW" comes out uniform; "PABLO" comes out patchwork. If your name leans on those four letters, the filled-circle style gives similar weight without the surprise colours.

Counting quirks before you paste

Everything except the classic circled set lives outside Unicode's Basic Multilingual Plane, which means many character counters treat each letter as two. A name that fits a 20-character limit in classic circles can overflow the identical field in solid squares. Digits only convert in the classic style, too — the other four alphabets were never given numbers, so 0–9 pass through untouched, and case gets normalized to whatever each set actually contains.

Bubble letters read best in small doses: one word in a Discord channel name, a section header in an Instagram bio, a spelled-out reaction in a group chat. Across whole sentences they get heavy fast — if you want large but readable, big text handles that job better, and small caps covers the opposite direction.
