Tiny raised and lowered lettering for people who would rather whisper — superscript floats above the line, subscript sinks below it.

Some of the best bios whisper. A tiny superscript line under a name — ᵉˢᵗ. ²⁰²¹, or a credit tucked beneath a caption as ᵖʰᵒᵗᵒ ᵇʸ ᵐᵃʸᵃ — reads like an aside, and that quietness is exactly why the style took over the soft-aesthetic corners of Instagram and Tumblr. The same characters also do honest technical work: km², x³, and H₂O are all built from these sets, so the tool doubles as the fastest way to write units and formulas in apps with no equation support.
Two sizes of tiny
- Superscript floats along the top of the line — ˢᵗᵃʸ ˢᵒᶠᵗ — and has a complete digit set, ⁰ through ⁹, which makes dates and years render cleanly.
- Subscript sinks below the baseline — ₛₘᵢₗₑ — and is the right pick for chemistry-style numbers like CO₂, less so for whole words.
Why some letters refuse to shrink
These glyphs were never designed as a matched font. They are phonetic modifier letters scattered across Unicode's Superscripts and Subscripts and Phonetic Extensions blocks, and linguists only created the ones transcription needed. Nobody ever needed a superscript q, so it does not exist: "unique" comes out ᵘⁿⁱqᵘᵉ, with one full-size letter stranded in the middle. Subscript coverage is thinner still — just seventeen lowercase letters have true forms, so "vibes" turns lumpy: ᵥᵢbₑₛ. Words spelled from a, e, h, i, l, m, n, o, s, and t convert cleanly; anything leaning on b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y, or z will not.
Making tiny look deliberate
The style works through contrast. Keep your name full size — plain, or dressed up in cursive — and drop a single tiny line beneath it, rather than shrinking the entire bio. A short phrase stays legible at phone text sizes; a full paragraph of superscript is genuinely hard to read, and that readability cost is the one real limit of the style. If you are building a whole profile around the look, the bio generator and the aesthetic fonts page take the same quiet direction further.
